The area sits along the Great Rift Valley, a tectonic wonder marked by volcanic activity. The Olkaria Geothermal Spa (also called SPA Resort) is a man-made hot pool heated by geothermal energy from the nearby Olkaria Geothermal Power Plant, Africa’s first of its kind. The spa’s warm, mineral-rich waters provide a relaxing experience amidst stunning scenery.

What to Expect

Baby Elephant Viewing: The main attraction is the opportunity to see orphaned baby elephants up close.
Playtime: After feeding, the elephants often play, interacting with their keepers and each other.
Learning about Conservation: Keepers provide information about each elephant's story (how they were orphaned, their age, etc.).
Focus on Elephants: While the Trust also works with rhinos, the public viewing is primarily focused on the elephants.
Specific Visiting Hours: Be aware that the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust has strict visiting hours (usually 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM) to minimize stress on the elephants.

Day 1Nairobi Wildlife Tour

7:00 AM – Departure from Nairobi City Centre
- Leave early to account for traffic and ensure you have enough time to travel between locations.
- Arrange for a private taxi or guided tour for convenience.
- Pack light: bring sunscreen, a hat, comfortable walking shoes, a camera, and some cash for souvenirs or donations.
7:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Travel to David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage
- Travel Time: Approximately 1 hour from Nairobi city centre to the Elephant Orphanage (depending on traffic).
- Arrive at the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage by 10:30 AM.
- Use the extra time to park, enter, and find a good spot for the elephant viewing session.
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM: David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage
- Enjoy the elephant feeding and mud bath session.
- Learn about the orphaned elephants and the conservation efforts to protect them.
- Don’t forget to adopt an elephant or make a donation to support their work.
12:00 PM – 12:30 PM: Travel to Giraffe Centre
- Travel Time: Approximately 30 minutes from David Sheldrick to the Giraffe Centre.
- Depart the Elephant Orphanage by 12:00 PM and arrive at the Giraffe Centre by 12:30 PM.
12:30 PM – 1:30 PM: Giraffe Centre
- Location: Langata, about 20-30 minutes from David Sheldrick.
- Opening Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Feed and interact with the giraffes, explore the nature trail, and visit the education center.
- Depart the Giraffe Centre by 1:30 PM.
1:30 PM – 2:30 PM: Lunch Break (Optional Places)
- The Talisman (Karen): A cozy spot with a mix of African and international cuisine (about 10 minutes from the Giraffe Centre).
- Karen Blixen Coffee Garden: A serene setting with delicious meals (about 10 minutes from the Giraffe Centre).
- Utamaduni Restaurant: Offers a buffet with a variety of options (about 5 minutes from the Giraffe Centre).

2:30 PM – 3:00 PM: Travel to Nairobi Animal Orphanage
- Travel Time: Approximately 15-20 minutes from the Giraffe Centre to the Nairobi Animal Orphanage.
- Depart the restaurant by 2:30 PM and ETA at the Nairobi Animal Orphanage by 3:00 PM.
3:00 PM – 4:30 PM: Nairobi Animal Orphanage
- Opening Hours: 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM.
- Explore the orphanage and see a variety of rescued animals, including lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and monkeys.
- Learn about the conservation efforts and the stories of the animals.
- Depart the orphanage by 4:30 PM.
5:00 PM – Return to Nairobi City Centre
- Head back to your hotel or accommodation, reflecting on a day well spent with wildlife and meaningful interactions.
