The Lemosho Route is one of the more recent additions to the climbing routes on Mount Kilimanjaro, gaining popularity due to its scenic beauty, high success rates, and lower crowds compared to older routes like Marangu or Machame.
Early Use: The Lemosho Route was originally a little-known path used by hunters and local communities before being adapted for tourism.
Tourism Introduction: In the early 2000s, Kilimanjaro outfitters and the Tanzanian government formalized the route to provide a more remote and gradual ascent option.
Route Modifications: Initially starting further west at Londorossi Gate, the route was later adjusted to improve accessibility while maintaining its wilderness appeal.
Scenic Diversity: Passes through rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and the Shira Plateau.
Better Acclimatization: Longer duration (typically 7-8 days) increases summit success rates.
Low Crowds: Less traffic than Machame or Marangu, offering a more secluded experience.
Today, the Lemosho Route is considered one of the best ways to climb Kilimanjaro, balancing beauty, challenge, and success potential
