Lake Nakuru National Park

Established in 1961, Lake Nakuru National Park is one of Kenya’s most famous parks, located in the Great Rift Valley. Initially created to protect the stunning flocks of flamingos that feed on the lake’s algae, it was later expanded to include savannahs, forests, and wildlife habitats. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a key rhino sanctuary, hosting both black and white rhinos. It’s also home to lions, leopards, buffalos, giraffes, and over 450 bird species, making it a paradise for wildlife lovers.

Once famous for its “sea of pink” flamingo flocks, Lake Nakuru remains a biodiverse gem despite recent ecological shifts. • Best flamingo sightings occur in drier months (Jan–Mar, Jul–Oct) when water levels recede slightly.
